Victory Of Zegers And Veen

Afrodite Zegers is not a stranger anymore as far as the big stage is concerned. There was a tremendous pressure during the final race of World Cup Series Miami 2017 presented by Sunbrella. The Zegers along with teammate Anneloes van Veen showed spectacular poise to win the title of Women’s 470.

The Dutch team made an entry in the final race with Eilidh Mclntyre and Sophie Weguelin for the first time in all standings. The other teams were physically present for every spot on the podium when the van Veen and Zegers marked in the lead with Mclntyre and Weguelin close behind. It was not plain sailing!

The race was indeed stressful as per van Veen. The first upwind was seen initially and thereafter the downwind seemed fine. However, on the 2nd upwind, they could not cover well. Van Veen and Zegers waited with a whole lot of patience to grab an opportunity to win. Finally, they were close enough to successfully grab the wind of the British team rolling on the top to get through the final mark in the 1st position. This was one of the best moments experienced by Zegers and Veen. (more…)

Olympic sailing threatened by Rio dump

The Olympic sailing course, this year, is a sink of rubbish which endangers the arranging of the event. A brand new snapshot from the coast of Rio de Janeiro shows the water cluttered with waste. It arouses concerns regarding athletes’ health during the Olympic Games.
Two months back, a disposed lounge was detected among debris at Guanabara Bay course. Also, 2 sailors sounded off of viral infections after a test event in August. Independent water examinations of Guanabara Bay arranged by Associated Press over the last year reveals disease triggering viruses connected to human sewage at levels thousands of times above which is considered alarming in European nations as well as in the United States.
Sailing bodies have asked the organizers of the Rio Games to move the event. Peter Sowrey, the former chief executive of World Sailing, stated that he was relieved from his position after he tried to knock down Guanabara Bay from the yachting schedule.
