Afrodite Zegers is not a stranger anymore as far as the big stage is concerned. There was a tremendous pressure during the final race of World Cup Series Miami 2017 presented by Sunbrella. The Zegers along with teammate Anneloes van Veen showed spectacular poise to win the title of Women’s 470.
The Dutch team made an entry in the final race with Eilidh Mclntyre and Sophie Weguelin for the first time in all standings. The other teams were physically present for every spot on the podium when the van Veen and Zegers marked in the lead with Mclntyre and Weguelin close behind. It was not plain sailing!
The race was indeed stressful as per van Veen. The first upwind was seen initially and thereafter the downwind seemed fine. However, on the 2nd upwind, they could not cover well. Van Veen and Zegers waited with a whole lot of patience to grab an opportunity to win. Finally, they were close enough to successfully grab the wind of the British team rolling on the top to get through the final mark in the 1st position. This was one of the best moments experienced by Zegers and Veen. (more…)
